BY-LAW D1 REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE TOWN DUMP, LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 138 ACROSS FROM THE OLD BEDARD QUARRY, CAUGHNAWAGA INDIAN RESERVE NO. 14 By-law, passed and approved, at a duly convened meeting held at the Caughnawaga Band Council Office, May 11, 1977, and en­ acted under authority of Section 81 a), c) & r) and Section 82 (2) of the Indian Act. Proposed by: Chief Ronald Kirby Seconded by: Chief Paul Deer ARTICLE 1 - DEFINITIONS For the purpose of the present by-law: a) The word "Caretaker" signifies the person named by the Band Council for the dumping site. b) The word "Dumping Site" signifies the location chosen by the Band Council for the depositing of refuse. c) The word "Reserve" signifies Caughnawaga Indian Reserve. e) The word "Inspectors" signifies Band Councillors, the Police Chief, all Police Constables or persons named by the Band Council. ARTICLE 2 - HOURS TO OPEN Gates will be open these hours only; 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. - Monday to Saturday, Closed all day Sunday. ARTICLE 3 - Town dump is for Reserve residents only. No commercial dumping of off-reserve refuse or materials. ARTICLE 4 - TRANSPORT OF REFUSE Persons collecting and transporting refuse to dump site are themselves responsible that they do not drop any while loading or transporting. ARTICLE 5 - DUMPING SITE All garbage and all other debris must be discarded at Reserve dump located on Highway 138 across from the Old Bedard Quarry only. ARTICLE 6 - CARETAKER The Caretaker will give, at all times, directions where to dump on dumping site. ARTICLE 7 - Positively no disposal of refuse or materials out-~ side of fence. ARTICLE 8 - Logs will be no longer than eighteen 'inches (18"), branches will be burned by depositer. . . ../2

ARTICLE 9 PENALTIES For offences to Articles 3, 5 & 7, the offender found guilty will be subject to a fine of $50.00 plus costs for the first offence and an additional $25.00 plus costs for each subsequent offence. For offences to Articles 2, 4, 6, & 8, the offender found guilty will be subject to a fine of $10.00 plus costs for the first offence and an additional $10.00 plus costs for every sub­ sequent offence. NON PAYMENT of fines, the offender will be subjected to prison terms of not more than fourteen (14) days. ARTICLE 10 - This by-law, D-l, does not infringe or abrogate By-Law No. 5.
