Mathias Colomb Cree Nation ARMS LAW 2025

Mathias Colomb Cree Nation wishes to exercise, through this law, its inherent rights of self-governance as well as its by-law powers under s. 81 of the Indian Act, RSC 1985, c 1-5; and
The Council of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation wishes to pass this law, and repeal its predecessors, in the best interests of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation enacts as follows: Citation 1. This law may be cited as the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation Arms Law, 2025. Definitions 2. In this Arms Law, a. "Arm" means a tool or weapon used or intended to be used to inflict death or injury including but limited to use in hunting.

"Arms Law'' means this law, the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation Arms Law, 2025. "Council" means the duly elected Council of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, and includes the Chief and Councillors.
"Firearm" means a barrelled weapon from which any shot, bullet or other projectile can be discharged by gunpowder, such as a rifle, pistol or other gun.

The Schedules, being the Firearm Registration Form, attached under Schedule "A," and the Ticket Fees, attached under Schedule "B" form part of this Arms Law and may be amended by resolution of the Council.
Repeal 16. All prior laws and resolutions of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, including by-laws dealing with, or regulating Firearms or other Arms, are hereby repealed and replaced with this Arms Law, including without limitation:

the resolution passed by the Council on August 22, 1974, regarding the carry and discharge of firearms;
the resolution passed on the Council on September 17, 1974 regarding the collection of sling-shots and bows and arrows; and
the Firearms By-law passed on November 18, 1991, bearing #140190, which was disallowed.
Coming into Force 17. This Arms Law comes into force after it is enacted by the Council of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, on the date it is first published on the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation website, in the First Nations Gazette, or in a newspaper that has general circulation on the Mathias Colomb Reserves, whichever the Council considers appropriate in the circumstances.
