S O , f V BY-LAW #5 COUCHICHING INDIAN RESERVE A By-Law of the Couehiehing Indian Reserve to regulate and control dogs. The Couehiehing Indian Reserve, in Council assembled, enacts as follows: 1. This By-Law may be referred to as the "THE DOG BY-LAW". 2» All dogs within the geographic area of the Couehiehing Indian Reserve must be licensed and carry and identification tags within 3 weeks of the coming into effect of this By-Law. 3. The band office will sell identification tags and maintain registry books where any dogs_within the geographic area of the reserve must be registered. i;. A license fee shall be paid to the Chief and Band Council at the time of registration, and such fee shall be; a) $2.00 for male dogs b) $2.00 for spayed dogs c) $10.00 for female dogs 5» Any household or family which has more than two dogs residing with it at any time will, from the date of receiving notice from the constable to get rid of the extra dog or dogs, have thirty days to get rid of the extra dogs. After thirty days the Constable may issue a summons against the owner of the dog or any member of the family or household. Upon conviction of having more than two dogs per household the fine shall be $25.00 for each dog over the permitted limit of two residing with the family or household, and the Constable shall then seize the dog or dogs which were the subject matter of the conviction and attempt to locate a new home for the dog or dogs but if unsuccessful shall destroy the dog or dogs. The owner of a dog which is not licensed and registered and carrying the proper tag in accord with this By-Law shall be penalized as follows: a) First offence a fine of $25.00 b) Second offence a fine of $50.00 e) Third offence dog shall be destroyed Any dog which bites or attacks any person within the geographic boundaries of the reserves shall be destroyed by the Constable. 6. The method of destroying dogs shall be by shooting performed by the Constable (or by persons as designated by the Chief and Council) on the 7.
