FELINE BY-LAW T h ° Council o f the Bird t a i l Sioux Band o f Indians at a meeting held th is 22nd day o ugust 1977 hereby enacts by-law No. 3-77 to provide fo r the re g u la tio n and co n tro l o f fe l in e s w ith in the boundaries o f the B ird ta il Sioux Indian Reserve. Whereas, paragraphs (a ) and (r ) o f S ection 81 o f the Indian Act empowers the Council o f a Band to make by-law s to provide fo r the health o f res id en ts on the Reserve and to prevent the spreading o f contagious and in fe c t io u s d isea ses and the im p osition o f a penalty fo r a v io la t io n th e re o f, and Whereas, i t i s deemed to be expedient to provide fo r the reg u la tion and co n tro l o f f e l in e s fo r the h ea lth , and w elfare o f the inhabitants o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Indian Reserve. Now th e re fo re the Council o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Band o f Indians enacts as a by-law th e re o f, the fo llo w in g : 1. In th is by-law , (a ) "Council®1 means the C ouncil, as defin ed in the Indian Act o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Band o f Indians; (b) "R eserve" means the tr a c t o f land set apart by Her M ajesty w ith in the d e f in i t io n o f the Indian A ct, fo r the use and b e n e fit o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Band o f Indians known as the B ir d ta il Sioux Reserve. ( c ) "F e lin e " means any c a t l ik e animal. (d ) "Household" means house, abode or any dw elling that is occu p ied . 2. No person s h a ll breed and r a is e f e l in e s fo r gain w ithout w ritten perm ission from the C ouncil. 3. No household sh a ll possess more than 2 f e l in e / f e l in e s at any one tim e. 4. No person s h a ll i l l trea t or n eg lect th e ir f e l in e . 5. Any f e l in e who is suspected to have an in fe c t io u s ailm ent s h a ll be treated or destroyed . 6. Any person who v io la te s any o f the p rov is ion s o f th is by-law s h a ll be g u ilty o f an o f fe n c e , and sh a ll be l ia b le on summary co n v ic t io n to a f in e not exceeding $100.00 or imprisonment fo r a term not exceeding 30 days, or both f in e and imprisonment.
