SV x/’ h r - /a/y BEE KEEPING BY-LAW « 2 - ^ y s ? ^ ^ Thf >uncil o f the B ird ta il Sioux Band o f Indians at a meeting held th is 22 day o f August 1977 hereby enacts by-law number 15-77 to provide fo r the reg u la tion o f Bee keeping w ith in the boundaries o f the B ird ta il Sioux Indian Reserve*in the Province o f Manitoba. Whereas paragraphs (k) and (r ) o f S ection 81 o f ttie Indian Act empowers the Council o f a Band to provide fo r the regu la tion o f beekeeping and the im position o f a penalty fo r a v io la t io n th e re o f, and Whereas i t is deemed to be expedient to co n tro l the a c t iv i t i e s o f beekeepers fo r the w e lfa re and sa fe ty o f the inhabitants o f the B ird ta il Sioux. Indian Reserve. Now th e re fo re the Council o f the B ird ta il Sioux Band o f Indians enacts as a by-law th ereo f the fo llo w in g : 1. In th is by-law , (a) "C ou n cil” means the Council as defin ed in the Indian Act o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Band o f Indians; (b ) "R eserve" means the tra c t o f land set apart by Her M ajesty w ith in the d e f in it io n o f the Indian A ct, fo r the use and b e n e f it o f the B ir d ta il Sioux Band o f Indians known as the B ird ta il Sioux Reserve. (c ) "H ives" means bee h iv es . 2. No person s h a ll p la ce or cause to be placed h ives upon the Reserve w ithout the w ritten consent o f the Chief and C ouncil. 3. No person s h a ll p la ce or cause to be p laced h ives near a dw elling house without the occupants perm ission e ith er expressed or im plied . 4 . No person sh a ll without law fu l excuse, the p roo f o f which l i e s upon him, prowl or l o i t e r by day or by n ight upon the s i t e where h ives are lo c a te d . 5. The Band Council s h a ll authorize the owner o f h ives to p la ce and m aintain or cause to be p laced or maintained warning signs in d ica tin g the d ista n ce and lo c a t io n o f h iv es . 6. No person sh a ll in te r fe r e with or attempt to in te r fe r e w ith by removing, d e fa c in g , o b lite r a t in g or a lte r in g any authorized bee signs w ith in the B ir d ta il Sioux Indian Reserve. 7. No person sh a ll m olest or destroy or attempt to m olest h ives w ith in the B ir d ta il Sioux Indian Reserve. 8. Any person who v io la te s any o f the p rov is ion s o f th is by-law sh a ll be g u ilty o f an o ffe n c e and sh a ll be l ia b le to a summary co n v ic t io n to a f in e not exceeding $100.00 or imprisonment fo r a term not exceeding 30 days or both f in e and imprisonment.
