RETYPED VERSION BY-LAW NO. 8 A BY-LAW OF THE PEIGAN INDIAN BAND COUNCIL OF BROCKET, ALBERTA REGULATING THE TIME AFTER WHICH CHILDREN SHALL NOT BE IN A PUBLIC PLACE AT NIGHT WITHOUT PROPER GUARDIANSHIP, AND THE AGE OR APPARENT AGE OF BOYS AND GIRLS RESPECTIVELY UNDER WHICH THEY SHALL BE REQUIRED TO BE IN THEIR HOMES AT THE HOURS APPOINTED. Pursuant to Section 80 of the INDIAN ACT, 1951, c. 29, S.l, the Council of the Peigan Indian Band, Brocket, Alberta duly assembled enacts as follows -(1) No child under the age of fourteen (14) years shall be in a public place within the boundaries of the Peigan Indian Reservation, Alberta, after the hour of ten (10) o'clock in the evening without proper guardianship. (2) A child to whom this By-law applies who is found in a public place within the boundaries of the Peigan Indian Reservation, Alberta, after the time so fixed may be warned to go hone by a peace officer and if after the warning the child refuses or fails to go home, he or she may be taken to his or her hone, or to a shelter by the peace officer. (3) A parent or guardian who permits his child to contravene this By-law is guilty of an offence and liable upon summary conviction: (a) For a first offence to a fine of ten dollars. (b) For a second offence to a fine of twenty dollars. (c) For a third or subsequent offence to a fine of thirty dollars, and in each case in default of payment to a term of imprisonment of not more than thirty days. (4) All previous curfew By-laws are hereby repealed. (5) This By-law shall come into force and take effect forty days after a copy thereof is forwarded to the Minister of Citisenship and Immigration. Read in Council this 27 day of May, A.D.1970.
